Parkinson's News Today: Parkinson’s Disease Might Be Triggered By Traumatic Brain Injury

Researchers at Mount Sinai Hospital and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York discovered that traumatic brain injury can often precede the development of Parkinson’s disease.

NewsMax: Traumatic Brain Injury: 6 Brain Functions That Suffer Most

Traumatic brain injury can be caused by blunt force trauma or by an object piercing the brain tissue.

Symptoms may be mild and temporary, moderate, or severe. Often, the injury requires brain surgery to remove ruptured blood vessels or bruised brain tissue.

BBC: Brain scan software 'could save lives of soldiers'

The portable ultrasound scanner is aimed at better detecting injuries such as bleeding on the brain.
The team is working on the technology with the Ministry of Defence's science and technology laboratory (DSTL).
