EmotEd, a therapeutic software business centered on rehabilitation for adults with traumatic brain injuries is recruiting patients next month. The study will evaluate the effectiveness of a scenario-based video game it has developed to support their rehabilitation for Alexithymia or emotional blindness. It hopes to release the results by the end of the year.

On December 31, 2009, less than two months before the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, snowboarder Kevin Pearce crashed his head into an icy half pipe in Park City, Utah.

The study also revealed a projected shortage of neurosurgeons to handle the increased number of patients expected to be diagnosed from this condition, typically the result of falls and other trauma.

Small areas of brain damage called white matter hyperintensities are seen in MRI scans of many older patients, according to scientists from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Higher levels of this damage have been linked to difficulty walking and other mobility problems, the researchers said.
